Saw waterspout from the top deck of a beach house. Sat out a tornado OUTSIDE a locked beach house, never saw the funnel - was too busy trying to scrunch into a doorway as pieces of the house were ripped away to look.
@Rev. Paul: I've read that in the days of sail a ship would fire into a waterspout with its cannons, hoping to break it up and prevent it doing damage to the vessel.
