New York Times Can't Tell Naval Officers From Naval Enlisted?

Here's a screenshot of a NY Times Story about Michael Monsoor:

Notice the headline, which refers to him as an officer? Monsoor was a Petty Officer Second Class, which is equivalent to an army Sergeant. It appears to be an Associated Press story, but I would guess that the NY Times wrote their own headline. I'm circulating this in the conservative blogosphere, I think.

  1. Why would we expect the Times to know?

PO2 Monsoor is certainly worthy of being an Officer. Led from the front!
