Country music star Jerry Reed has died of emphysema at age 71.
Jerry's brand of country was a bit too raucous and rock-oriented for me, and he didn't have one of the great country voices; more of a honky-tonk sort of singer than anything else, I think. He was definitely a talented guitarist, though.
I mostly remember him for starring in Burt Reynolds movies, my favorite being the mostly-forgotten W.W. and the Dixie Dancekings. I liked that movie more for Don Williams' fine, understated acting than anything else; I've always been a Don Williams fan. That movie is also where Don acquired his famous hat.
