Even for a former UFC champion.
By all accounts, Evan Tanner was somewhat of a troubled soul. In the midst of a Ultimate Fighting Championship comeback, friends say that they he was struggling with alcohol, and that they had to check on him to make sure that he had food in his refrigerator and that he was taking care of himself. His death was was equally strange: After taking off on a solo camping trip in a remote area of the Palo Verde mountains in southern California, he reportedly ran out of gas on his motorcycle and died of exposure while trying to get out on foot. His body was found by an Imperial County Sheriff's Department deputy on Monday. He was 37.
He appears to have neglected or ignored the rules for survival in a desert environment, if he ever learned them in the first place. Apparently he was aware of the environment that he was going into, and either panicked or purposely neglected survival gear/practices. Very strange, and a waste of a young life.
