Treasure Blog: 1933 US Double Eagles

They weren't supposed to be released by the US Mint, but some got out, anyway, and a handful of them were discovered in a safe deposit box all these decades later.

They were confiscated by the Secret Service, but a judge has ordered them released to the finder.

  1. That mintage of St. Gaudens Double Eagles was--before this find--the most valuable because most were destroyed. They probably still are. I had a 1921, but was forced to let it go a few years back.

  2. Damn government anyway. We make, they take it. I hope the Lanfords win.
