$1 Coin Proposal Gathers Steam

Could result in savings of 5.6 billion dollars.

And, although the coins are heavy, increased production of the $2 bill (it could go in the $1 bill slot in cash drawers) would alleviate most of the concerns people have over weight.

  1. One of the "The Presidents" series of $1 coins weighs eight times as much as a Dollar bill.

    While I don't have 100 of either $1 bills or coins to compare; I'm going to go out on a limb and say that 100 bills takes up less volume than 100 coins. That means more service runs for vending machines, POS tills, etc.
