@Borepatch: nah, the Navy cleans them daily as part of routine ships' duties, and they are inspected regularly by the CO or the XO. It's one of the jobs junior enlisted personnel perform on board ship, since they don't have janitorial staff aboard.

Oh come on - you know that's coming. With all the pitching and rolling in heavy seas, it will be to "cut down on the need for frequent cleaning".
