From the Collection

My Swiss Army Knives. Those made by Victorinox are on the left, those made by Wenger are on the right. I like Wenger better, but they have been acquired by Victorinox, so their continued future is doubtful. With the plastic-handled ones I always try to buy models without the tweezers or toothpick, which I find annoying. I also have customised a couple of them with blade serrations.

  1. Query: why do you prefer Wenger?

  2. @Rev. Paul: The Wengers with the plastic handles are slightly smaller than their Victorinox brethren, and the standard screwdriver is designed in such a way that it locks when used to tighten or loosen a screw, a feature for which Wenger holds the patent. Their smaller size allows them to fit into an Altoids tin for use as a pocket survival kit, also, while a Victorinox is too large.
