With Apologies To Mr. Heinlein

A hotel guest should be able to use the TV remote, connect to the wi-fi network, turn the air conditioning or heating on, cook food in the microwave, not explode sodas in the refrigerator, change the time on the clock radio, make the shower work, figure out how to use the guest phone, find the nearest soda and snack machines, return the luggage cart to the lobby and fetch any additional towels or linens personally. The desk clerk is for emergencies.

(a parody of Heinlein's "Competent Man.")

  1. While I agree with the majority of your post, some hotels make some things difficult, sometimes maintenance is not up to par, less than user friendly interfaces for systems, etc. I know. Just spent 3 nights in two different Hamptons. They were totally different!

  2. Modern man is, for the most part, unable to cope with anything more complicated than standing in the lobby & demanding assistance. But then, you know that too well.

  5. @B: I've been doing this work since 1988. I know fully well how incapable some guests are. ;)
