@wally: the "wealthy white physicians" (envy, anyone?) somehow avoid making it into the headlines of The Charlotte Observer, which is hardly the Fox News of the Carolinas. When they do, I'll be sure to mention it.
Maybe we should do what Castro does, and pay our physicians so little that they have to moonlight as cab drivers to make ends meet? You want to be operated on by a surgeon who moonlights as a cab driver, Wally?
I know your reading habits extend beyond the Charlotte Observer, Robert. Are you saying you aren't aware of any Medicaid fraud except for this woman? May I suggest you subscribe to the Virginian-Pilot? There have been plenty of articles over the years about who commits the most serious crimes in this area. I mentioned their race and wealth not out of envy but to counter your "welfare cadillac" stereotype.
I'm not sure where the Castro reference comes from. Did you take from my comment that I believe doctors should not be wealthy--and therefore I'm a proto-communist? Kind of a stretch there, Bob.
Didn't really mean to be so contentious tonight; it's just that the phrase "welfare cadillac" often stands in for a general resentment of anyone on welfare, as if they're living like kings on our dime. Anyone who's worked with these people know different. If I'm making unwarranted assumptions about your attitude, my apologies.
@wally: I blogged on this story because of the sheer size of the woman's fraud - - $600,000.00 - - and because of what she chose to spend it on - - A Bentley, for chrissake.
As for "countless wealthy white physicians who regularly defraud Medicaid," I'm going to have to invoke Carl Sagan's maxim "extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof" on that one, Wally. While you might be able to cite an example or two of white physicians who defrauded Medicaid of over half a million dollars, I defy you to show me "countless" examples of it.
I took from your comment that you resent white doctors being wealthy, and that you suspect that their wealth derives mainly from practicing Medicaid fraud. "Countless wealthy white physicians" sounds rather spittle-flecked, if you ask me.
Sorry for the exaggeration. I didn't literally mean "countless", of course. Let's settle for "many". I don't consider that an extraordinary claim; in any case, I don't really have time to do research on it for you. You can believe my assertion that I have read of many of these cases, or not.
As for your belief that I'm saying the wealth of white doctors comes from medicaid fraud, that's just too silly to respond to.
