Look at the picture below and tell me: where would you find that particular object on a US Navy ship?

Can be used as a key ring to clip to a belt loop such as duty gunners mate for armory keys. Possibly lashed to a life line around pilot's ladder access.

It hangs from Senior's shorts with a ton of keys. Flags.

Stephen, why are you wanting my shorts to fall down? Hmmm, Lol.

@SENIOR: good secondary uses. :)

@Stephen: we has a winner: They are found on signal flags - - usually well tarnished. Friends of the signalmen usually are able to acquire them for keyrings, as Senior has apparently done.

Late as usual... I 'had' one... long since disappeared into one of the daughter's hands... Sigh

@Old NFO: check your email.

Hi Bob,
'Still have my "original" from my old Navy daze aboard the USS Princeton LPH-5. 'Still have the first "P-38" aka "John Wayne" with it. Got a bunch of em' from a signalman, my original has a small anchor on the shank.

@skybill: I too once had a signal flag clip with an anchor marking, lost long ago. Strangely enough, I once bought a brass buckle for a 2" belt that had the same anchor marking, so I guess it came from the same foundry. Thanks for commenting!
