First We Builds Them Up...

...then we knocks 'em down.

The inevitable happens, and Jet Blue flight attendant "hero" Steven Slater is the subject of a CBS story detailing the stories of some passengers on that Jet Blue flight who describe Slater as rude and obnoxious.

Often these scenarios are partisan in nature, as in the case of Joe the Plumber, who was a hero to Republicans and a fraud to Democrats. Probably the only recent hero who hasn't been besmirched is Captain Sullenberger of the "miracle on the Hudson." I haven't heard anything derogatory about him.

You must know, of course, that hardly anything claimed about Joe The Plumber turned out to be true. And before you get all tu quoque on my ass, I'm sure there are plenty of examples of Dems doing the same thing. I'm just saying that Joe The Plumber turned out to be more than competing spins.

@wally: Joe the Plumber's claim to fame comes from simply asking presidential candidate Barack Obama a question which Obama answered in a way (spread the wealth around) that proved embarrassing to him. Since the MSM wasn't asking the hard questions of Obama at the time (bunch of bootlicking sycophants more accurately describes them), this was enough to raise Joe to hero status among that segment of the electorate that didn't support Obama. Joe's punishment from both the Democrat machine and its MSM collaborators was to have his personal life revealed for all to see, including government employees snooping his personal records in violation of law.

Much of the controversy about Joe being less than truthful stems from his not having a plumbing license to operate in the state of Ohio. That is simply a de facto/de jure distinction, much as if you were required to have a license in order to call yourself an artist. Not being a licensed plumber doesn't mean that Joe was lying about being a plumber.

"Spread the wealth around" was a tiny part of Obama's answer, isolated by the conservative media in a way every bit as cynical as the tactics of your nemeses. Further, the numbers didn't support Mr. Plumber's supposed tax burden, as described by the valiant, noble practitioners of conservative journalistic arts. To his credit, Joe ended up washing his hands of both sides.

@Wally, Bob's point that Joe asked the question that the MSM wouldn't stands. Whether you agree with this or that detail of Obama's answer is irrelevant; Joe asked, and Obama answered, and his answer was pretty danged interesting.

Whether Joe was right or wrong, we learned something from Joe that we didn't from the MSM.

So what that Joe wasn't some Philosopher King/Saint? As if the anchors on CNN or Meet The Press are. The point is to get candidates to answer interesting questions. Joe delivered.

The fact that a non-licensed plumber could, when the MSM couldn't (actually wouldn't) is Bob's point.

@wally: and Joe asking a question didn't justify the persecution he received at the hands of the Democrats and their collaborators, the MSM. He had government employees snooping his personal records, looking for dirt.

Boys: Bob made a reference to Joe the Plumber in his original post. I responded to that reference with a comment. If Bob and you then choose to make other "points" about the mainstream media, that's your prerogative. You may well be right, but I don't feel an obligation to follow you down that road.

You really can't equate this flight attendant with Joe the Plumber. The flight attendant was responding to a selfcentered typical 'merican protoplasm.....oh wait maybe Joe was also.
