A Bestseller, 3 Months Before Release Date
Susan Boyle's debut music CD I Dreamed A Dream is still three months away from release, but it is still topping the Amazon.com pre-order charts.

Treasure Blog: Old Post Card
Some treasures are priceless for obvious reasons: rare gems, coins, paintings. Others are priceless only to a few individuals because they have no inherent value other than the ability to invoke happy memories or nostalgia.
One such treasure is a post card purchased by a bargain hunter in UK; to the man's astonishment, one of the cards showed his own mother celebrating the end of WWII.
Here's the card:
The man's mother is the woman in the white blouse and dark skirt in the right of the picture.
Ever seen the movie Amelie? In that movie, the title character, played by Audrey Tautou, discovers an old tin box full of boys' toys hidden in her apartment. She tracks the boy (now grown, of course) down and secretly gives him his box back, watching his reaction from hiding. The man, overcome by childhood memories, begins to weep, and the event triggers a desire in him to reconcile with his daughter and her young son.
Treasure. Sometimes it's gold. Other times it's just a piece of cardboard.

In Personal News...
...on Monday evening I was awakened by my sister just after she arrived home, there was water spouting from the washing machine hose: it had burst. Part of my bedroom, the hallway, the bathroom and part of my sister's room were swimming in water which had been running for nearly two hours.
So, at this moment on Thursday morning a crew is ripping up carpet, padding and vinyl flooring in preparation for drying machines to be placed. Once the underlying wood flooring is dry, new carpet and vinyl flooring will have to be installed. The crew foreman says he'll have everything set up in four hours or so.
Luckily we rent, rather than own, so the expense isn't ours, other than possibly replacing the clothes dryer, which possibly got fried by the water. A new hose might repair the washing machine, we'll have to see.

This is a follow-up to this post I made on the 14th of last month.
Looks like the suspect and the victims in this crime are all black. Black serial killers are not unheard of but there are far fewer than are committed by white men. One thing I noticed in my study of serial killing is that it's mostly a white crime, but that gay white men commit a disproportionately high number of serial killings relative to their numbers in the US population. Some of the most famous serial killers, such as John Wayne Gacy and Jeffrey Dahmer, have been gay men.

Americana At The Grammies
A new category to reflect changing musical tastes.
Much of what I listen to these days falls into this category, artists like Slaid Cleaves, Lucy Kaplansky, Carrie Newcomer, James McMurtry and others. Good stuff, with the focus on the music, not the antics of the performers. A lot of it is Austin or Nashville based.
Additional story here. Of the artists listed, I like Todd Snider's work the most, probably.

Survival At Sea: Three Texans Lost At Sea For A Week
