In Japan, Tattoos Still Stigmatized

Story.

The Japanese associate tattoos with the Yakuza, or organized crime gangs, whose members are extensively tattooed. The other group in Japan that is commonly tattooed is, of course, US military members and families, who are also being penalized by the stigma.

That article mentioned a service member with Asian graphics getting the ugly eye. I wonder if the Asian script said something other than whatever he paid for?

It's possible. Fooling dumb Americans with bogus Kanji is almost an unwritten law among tattoo artists, for some reason.
