Asama is one of Japan's most active volcanoes. Officials in Japan raised the alert status on Asama one degree on a five-degree scale, so the current threat status is a three.

It's interesting that Asama is waking up at the same time as Redoubt in Alaska. Coincidence? I'm not saying they share the same magma chamber, because obviously they are hundreds of miles apart.
