Army Corps of Engineers: Let's Drown All the Coonasses

Looks like that to save New Orleans from flooding again, the Army Corps of Engineers is planning to open spillways that will flood Cajun country instead.

Can we take a vote? If I had to choose between the Cajuns and the Nig...er, um, citizens of New Orleans, I'd much rather have the Cajuns.

I agree. We're going to wreck the lives of thousands of law-abiding, productive people just to spare a bunch of public-housing dwellers the inconvenience of having to move to another project for a while. But the Obama Admin. knows that if they tell the Cajuns to evacuate, they will, whereas if they tell the folks in New Orleans to evacuate, they won't, and then they'll all scream and cry and cost the government millions when the water comes.

If I were living in the Atchafalaya Basin and knew that the government was planning to flood me, my family and my friends out to spare someone else living in the natural river course, I'd already be in possession of the spillway control house with a rifle and enough food and water to last until the river was down (or covering New Orleans). Then I'd dare the government to find a jury of my peers that would actually convict me of something.

Jesus, Robert. This is what comes from callous stereotyping. You're smart enough to know that there are many, many New Orleans residents who are upstanding, law-abiding citizens. Yet your conservative penchant for narrowing your vision down to a black-and-white squint results in smarmy posts like this, right down to the coy (and kind of cowardly) "nig-" construction. You've hit a new low. (And please take note that I haven't voiced an opinion on the Corps of Engineers' plan.)

@wally: I knew this one would piss you off, and you know what? I don't particularly care. While I don't want an overtly racist blog with the sort of dumbass rednecks that such a blog would attract, neither am I going to pretend an affection for blacks that I don't basically have.

Chris Rock expresses my feelings perfectly.

The quote on my sidebar from Ambrose Bierce is germane: Remember that it hurts no one to be treated as an enemy entitled to respect until he prove himself a friend worthy of affection. This applies to my dealings with blacks: I view them in a certain way until they prove otherwise.

Other bloggers, specifically the late Rob Smith, tried dealing honestly on his blog with his racism, and found that it couldn't be done, so I'm not even going to try. It should be clearly understood that, while I have no affection for most of the black race, neither do I have much affection for large segments of the white race, either. I do in fact think of myself as a misanthrope, and don't apologize for it.

I don't know if you do this on purpose, but once again you've responded to a point I never made. Whether your opinion of people you call "nig-" is justified or not, I'll leave for another conversation. My point is--well, I stated my point perfectly clearly the first time. If all you saw through your squinty eyes was "liberal guy defending nig-s," then that's your loss, not mine.

@wally: while there may be "many, many New Orleans residents who are upstanding, law-abiding citizens," I'd rather not be put in the position of Abraham in Sodom trying to quantify them. That turned out badly, you'll recall.

I go to New Orleans for a week every year, and not just the tourist parts, and I can say with confidence: New Orleans is not Sodom, and you're not God.

Bob said...

@wally: no, apparently the Army Corps of Engineers is God, because they're deciding who lives and dies in this particular situation.

People do this all the time. Ever hear of triage?
