I basically agree with this. However, it's not the first time it's been proposed, and implementing it universally among English-speaking countries would be difficult. I think, though, that it will be easier in the future, as more and more of our communications and media are digital instead of printed paper page.

Come on. Stop insisting on some small part of civilization to endure? Spelling, vocabulary; very important. Let several different small languages seep into English language, and it all becomes gibberish.
I believe that the language should remain, not be changed based on the stoned ideas of some whack-o intellectual and his whims.
"We's goan to de stoah" should never replace "we are going to the store". Otherwise, we lose our written (and spoken) communication. Teach it right, and insist on proper grammar(at least in school - what you "talks" on yo' own time, "so whuts?")
Continue to correct spelling and grammatical errors. It may be a losing battle, but it's a battle worth fighting.
