Ok, I'm wanting a new holster for my Ruger Vaquero 7.5" .45. I have a flap holster for it, but I'd like an open-top holster, also. The trouble is that all of the open-top holsters don't cover enough of the gun for my liking.
First, here is what the gun looks like in the flap holster:
And next is the same photo, with some crude photoshopping showing what part of the gun I want covered when it is holstered:
My question is this: do any of the holster makers make a holster that covers all of the gun except for a bit of the butt? If not, I can have a friend make me one custom.

Don't know about the holster, but I like the Vaquero. Looks like a fun pistol.
*nods* I really like Ruger single-actions. First pistol I ever owned was a Ruger Blackhawk in .357 Magnum. When I get my tax refund the temptation to buy another Vaquero, a snubby version called the Cortado, will be nearly overwhelming.
Don't know it it helps for ideas if you go the "friend making one" route, but here's one I made once upon a time, sort of an "old meets new" amalgam for woods tromping up here once upon a time:
side
face
I know I wouldn't have it open if you will be riding on horseback, unless you have a thin leather strap that runs over the hammer and snaps on the side of the case.
