More than a thousand Venus' Flytraps stolen from Alderman Park in Wilmington, NC.
It's pretty much uniquely a NC crime because the flytraps are native to this part of world, and nowhere else. The plants, each worth $20, total up to a $20,000 crime. Other carnivorous plants such as sundews and pitcher plants were also taken.

Obviously, someone trying to corner the market - although I had no idea a) they were unique to your area, or b) they were in that much demand.
Interesting what I learn on your blog, no? :)
@Rev. Paul: And it's only the coastal region of NC where you can find them. They possibly extend down into SC; doubt that they get into VA at all. I first started learning of them in Catholic school, where I gave a book report to my class about them that was such a hit that the teacher called the school principal (Sister Trinita) to hear my report, also. :-)
Hadn't heard of this. Thanks.
Somebody trying to dispose of 'something' incriminating???
