Discovered by crews cleaning up after Hurricane Ike off the Galveston coast, the wreck is thought to be the Civil War-era blockade runner Carolina.
Location is being kept secret to prevent looting, archaelogists will work on the wreck in the summer when the Gulf of Mexico is calmer.
