Even Gun Rights Allies Get Gun Details Wrong

Prager University, which is a website sponsored by conservative commentator/radio host Dennis Prager, features 5-minute videos on a variety of current events topics as well as basics of US history and theory of government that were formerly taught to children in civics classes. They are a great resource for becoming informed beyond the level of total ignorance, which the typical American educated in public schools all too often is. Having said that, Prager University is as likely to mess up important details on certain areas of knowledge as any mainstream media outlet is.

Here is an example from Prager University's latest video, "Build the Wall," hosted by Charles Krauthammer. At one point in the discussion, reference is made to a "silver bullet" that will solve all of the immigration problems in the US, and a graphic of a "bullet" flies accross the screen:

See the error? That's not a bullet, but an entire cartridge - - casing, bullet, and all, displaying for all the world that the artist who made the graphic hasn't a clue about how guns work.

Here's the video so you can watch it yourself:

I Coined a Phrase On Twitter Last Night.

Anchor Fetus.

My reasoning is that, in the current immigration fight, Democrats and the MSM (redundant, I know) profess to hate the term "anchor baby" as used to describe a baby birthed by an illegal alien woman for purposes of "anchoring" her family onto US soil (and benefits). And, of course, Democrats when speaking of abortion never use the term baby, preferring to call it a fetus. Thus, the anchor fetus. A way to describe a child born on US soil to the mother of an illegal alien, phrased in a way that a Democrat should approve of.

I used the term several times last night in various Twitter conversations, one of them being in response to radio host Mark Levin, and hey presto!

"MARK LEVIN ON ‘ANCHOR BABIES:’ THE LEFT PREFERS ‘ANCHOR FETUSES’"

(and yes, I did do a Google search to see if the term was in use prior to my Tweets last night: nope).

Labor For the Border Fence

You want amnesty for all of the millions of illegal aliens in the US? Fine, put your labor where your mouth is and volunteer for the Fence Corps, a project to build a secure fence system along the southern US border. Illegal aliens that register as laborers for one year of Fence Corps will be given amnesty upon successful completion of their year's contract. Once the fence is built there will still be volunteers needed for maintenance and guard duty.

While you're at it, amend the Constitution so that there is no longer automatic birthright citizenship except for parents of native US citizens. In other words, no one whose parents are illegal aliens are to be granted automatic US citizenship simply by the fact of being born in the US. No anchor babies, to put it bluntly.

We're the Last...

...developed country to offer birthright citizenship:

SOME MODERN COUNTRIES THAT RECENTLY ENDED THEIR BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP POLICY:

a. Canada was the last non-U.S. holdout. Illegal aliens stopped getting citizenship for their babies in 2009.

b. Australia's birthright citizenship requirements are much more stringent than those of H.R. 1868 and took effect in 2007.

c. New Zealand repealed in 2006.

d. Ireland repealed in 2005.

e. France repealed in 1993.

f. India repealed in 1987.

g. United Kingdom repealed in 1983.

h. Portugal repealed in 1981.

Arizona To US Government: Do Your Freaking Job

I wanted to comment on the YouTube video put out by the governor of Arizona:

This situation is similar to how citizens take the law into their own hands and become vigilantes when local or state governments don't do their primary job and enforce public order. The last president to address illegal immigration was Reagan, and his efforts addressed only half of the problem via an amnesty for illegals already in the country, without following up on securing the border. George H.W. Bush ignored the issue, as did Clinton. George W. Bush tried to address it but failed, because he wanted to try the same failed policy that Reagan had passed: amnesty, then secure the border.

Secure the border first. After that everything else will eventually be solved, but if the border isn't secured then it's as if you left a broken dam to continue flooding your valley.

Meanwhile, In UK...

...the people in charge of the immigration program that saw millions of immigrants flood into the country are having second thoughts about the wisdom of such a policy.

In his paper, Is the progressive case for migration truly progressive?, Mr Finch said supporters of immigration have bemoaned the drift towards restrictive and reactionary policies since the 1960s.

The fact most people disagreed with them only further convinced them they were right, he said.

But he admitted: "A particularly unfortunate element of this syndrome in relation to migration is a tendency to characterise our opponents as nasty, stupid and backward. By so doing, we give ourselves license to either patronise or ignore them."

He added: "In fact, as must now be obvious to us, the vast majority of mainstream public opinion does not see the logic or the ethics of our case."

He said while it would be wrong for restrictions to be based on race or particular nationalities, "it does not follow that restrictions per se are inherently wrong, and it is certainly not the case that totally free flows are more progressive than controlled ones".

He accepted that large influxes of people to some areas can have "serious downsides" and that "anything approaching ‘open borders’ would cause chaos and massive destabilisation –within both developed and developing economies."

The US problem in miniature, with the problem a bit more advanced than it is in the US. It's amusing to me that the progressive elites couldn't imagine such an outcome in advance, but had to see it for themselves after the damage had already been done.

History Doesn't Repeat, But Sometimes It Rhymes

Mark Twain said that.

I was just reading a story in the UK Daily Mail called The Great White Backlash: Working Class Turns On Labour Over Immigration And Housing, and realized that this is what the US went through in the late 1960's and early 1970's, when the Democrat Party began treating the white working class (especially in the South) with such contempt and disdain that those worthies fled to the Republicans.

Now, decades later, we can see that the Democrats have become the party of minorities and immigrants, while whites make up the majority in the Republicans. The same thing is beginning to happen in UK: Labour, the traditional party of the white working class, is taking them for granted, and those worthies are shifting to the Tories or even to the British National Party.

It may be that the US Democrats and UK Labour are smarter in the end, because the fecundity of the minority and immigrant populations will tend to overwhelm the native white population demographically, and open-border policies only guarantees that such will remain the case.
