"Doezilla" Proves Hard To Kill

It took collisions with three different vehicles to end the life of a doe in White Hall, Arkansas.

Along the way Doezilla smashed through the glass doors of a travel plaza, ran down a hall, and smashed another set of glass doors to exit.

Tough damned deer they grow in Arkansas, apparently.

No Man Farts On Me And Lives!*

In Waco, Texas, a man was attacked by a hotel roommate after farting.

*paraphrase of a quote by Confederate general Nathan Bedford Forrest during the Civil War. Forrest accused one of his men of cowardice after a battle, and the man returned with a pistol and shot Forrest. Forrest, trimming his fingernails with a pen knife at the time, shouted No man kills me and lives! and stabbed the man with the pen knife, which resulted in his death a short time later.

Don't Give Up The Ship!*

Pirates in the Indian Ocean off Somalia boarded and captured a US-flagged/crewed ship, but guess what? The crew took it back!

US crew members have retaken their hijacked ship but their captain is still being held by Somali pirates on a lifeboat, reports say.

Pentagon sources and relatives of the Maersk Alabama's 20 crew were earlier quoted as saying the ship was back under control after a struggle.

But later reports emerged that the captain was still in the hands of the hijackers, adrift in the lifeboat.

*"Don't give up the ship!"

Tradition has it that Captain James Lawrence said these heroic words after being mortally wounded in the engagement between his ship, the U.S. frigate Chesapeake, and HMS Shannon on 1 June 1813. As the wounded Lawrence was carried below, he ordered "Tell the men to fire faster! Don't give up the ship!"

Although Chesapeake was forced to surrender, Captain Lawrence's words lived on as a rallying cry during the war. Oliver Hazard Perry honored his dead friend Lawrence when he had the motto sewn onto the private battle flag flown during the Battle of Lake Erie, 10 September 1813.

That's Right, Take It Out On Moses

A man in Worcester, Massachusetts, angry that a court clerk would not allow him to renew his driver's license because of an unpaid speeding ticket, took his anger out on a plaster statue of Moses, toppling it to the ground.

The man allegedly took his frustration out on the biblical lawmaker with a uniformed state trooper standing about 15 feet away. Trooper James Ellis told the Telegram & Gazette that the man appeared "very agitated, very upset."

You notice that the man chose to take his anger out on a statue rather than a state trooper, who unlike a statue, was likely to defend himself against a violent attack.

Did You Put The Hammer Down On That Seatcover, Rubber Duck?

The FBI thinks that truckers are responsible for serial killings along US highways.

WASHINGTON, April 5 (UPI) -- The FBI has been looking for patterns in killings along U.S. highways, suspecting that some long-haul truck drivers are responsible for many of them.

The victims include prostitutes, hitchhikers and women whose cars have broken down, the Los Angeles Times reported Sunday. Agents working out of an office in Virginia study killings, looking for patterns.

"You've got a mobile crime scene," one investigator said. "You can pick a girl up on the East Coast, kill her two states away and then dump her three states after that."

Message In A Bottle Found After 96 Years

Story.

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Darin Winkler was out walking the banks of the Spokane River with his kids last weekend when he saw something that looked...

It looked like an antique bottle, with an old-fashioned cork stopper.

So Winkler and his kids, Evan and Iris, walked up and took a closer look. That's when they saw it.

A message in a bottle.

Winkler grabbed the bottle and took it back to his house. He carefully teased the note out of the bottle. The paper was a little damp, flaking in places, but mostly intact. The first thing he saw took his breath away: "March 30, 1913."

Click the link to read the rest. The bottle was launched by a man who died in a nursing home in 1978.

Volcano Blog: Living With A Nearby Volcano

Alaskans in Anchorage learn about co-existence with an active volcano.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Mount Redoubt is getting under the skin of Alaska, and it's not just the irritation caused by volcanic ash.

For residents of Alaska's largest city, living near an active volcano means sometimes wearing air-filtration masks and stretching panty hose over the air intake of cars and trucks.

The volcano also brings daily uncertainty about whether it will blow and, if it does, where the ash will go.

"I would like it to have a big boom and get it over with," said Brad Sandison, a retired truck driver and avid cyclist who carries a face mask and goggles whenever he rides just in case the volcano starts spewing ash.

Sort of a fatalistic approach: Just explode already!

Speaking Of Hamburgers...

...take a gander at today's lunch:

Two 3/4 pound hamburgers, charcoal-grilled, with garlic powder mixed into the meat, two slices of American cheese each, eaten on honey wheat toast. Yummy!

Good Thing She Wasn't Teaching Him About Murder

A Salem, Oregon woman was arrested for driving 103MPH with her young son in the car with her.

Her defense when stopped is that she wished to provide her son an example of how not to drive.

As a bonus, she's an employee of the Oregon DMV.

Can't make this stuff up, folks. Well, I could, but it probably wouldn't be nearly as entertaining.

Just Call Her Mona Greasa

As a publicity stunt for Arby's, an artist creates a copy of the Mona Lisa using nothing but an Arby's competitor's hamburger grease.

Here she is in all her oily glory:

Unfortunately the article doesn't idendify the greasy hamburger chain by name.

Now You Can't Hear Him Bark, Are You Satisfied?

An Australian woman stabbed a neighbor to death after he complained about her barking dog.

Well, she certainly took care of that little problem, didn't she?

The old joke goes that a boat is a hole in the water into which the owner pours money. Looks like the money has run out, because boat owners are abandoning their boats as too costly to keep.

Hey, Look, I'm The Human Torch

A man, possibly a US military man back from Iraq, made the mistake of striking a spark at a gasoline station.

I'd guess from the video footage that he's probably burned his face badly, and much of his body, besides. Forgetfulness? Stupidity? Horseplay? A moment's lapse in judgment results in a body and face scarred for life. What a waste.

Here's the video of the scene:

Just Call Him Stumpy

In South Carolina, authorities exhumed the body of a tall man who was rumored to have had his legs amputated in order to fit into a too-short coffin.

"Can I 'axe' a question," yelled one reporter.

"Can you tell us what you 'saw?'" asked another.

Not really. I wish that they had, though.
