Volcano In Los Angeles?

Some news source I've never heard of thinks its possible, based on a "thermal anomaly" in the Padres Forest section of LA.

I'm sure President Bush will be blamed for this, if it happens. He's blamed for hurricanes, after all.

Didn't someone make a movie of this? Gore will blame global warming I'm sure when the Hollywood sign melts.

The LA Times has a story on the subject, some scientist said that the glue melted out of his light hikers just standing in that area.

Yah, Al Gore's old roomy Tommy Lee Jones made a movie called Volcano back in the 90's. It was Hollywood-ridiculous. Another film from the same period, Dante's Peak, with Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton, at least tried to get volcano science correct and was actually a pretty good film.

It's not incoceivable that a new volcano could form in the LA region; it only requires a magma chamber down in the Earth's crust, and a sufficiently weak path to the surface, such as a fault system (San Andreas, anyone?) There are volcanoes both north and south of LA, so the possibility is there.
