Oh My Goodness, Oh My Soul...

...there goes Anna Mae down that hole.

It's been not just years, but decades since I heard that old schoolyard song. For those who have never heard it, here are the lyrics:

Anna Mae
Where are you going?
Upstairs, to take a bath.
Anna Mae’s got legs like toothpicks
And a neck like a giraffe.
Anna Mae stepped in that bathtub.
Anna Mae pulled out the plug.
Oh my goodness, oh my soul,
There goes Anna Mae down that hole.

That's the way I heard it, anyway. Your experience may vary.

The version I heard as a kid had "Alice" rather than "Annie Mae".

I was taught Anna Mae.
