Meanwhile, In New Jersey...

and I'm not talking the NY-suburb "You talkin' to me?" New Jersey, but backwoods Pine Barrens New Jersey, an Indian (not Hiawatha) out with his friends met a bear, and proved the slowest of his group in the chase that ensued.

Thus once again proving the adage Stay fit and carry a .44 Magnum.

.44 Mag, .454 Casull, .500 S&W ... all good. Expensive, too, but worth it if it's all that's between you & an angry bear.

In Alaska, I am told, the gun of choice for such missions where people are doing other than actually seeking to meet a bear is...

drumroll...

The Glock 20.

10mm is ALMOST 41 Mag and you get a fist full of them in a (sort of) convenient package.

He didn't run, he stood there and took pictures of it as it approached. The bear bit the hell out of the camera too.

"Patel and his friends turned around when the bear got within 300ft, but it kept following. When it got to within 15 feet, the group split up and fled.
The hikers say Patel lost one of his shoes during the hike, and was 'extremely winded' when the group split up.
They last saw him climbing some rocks in an attempt to get away from the bear. He shouted for them to keep running."
