Well, Freedom-Lovers, Here's Your Chance
via Amy Alkon:
LOS ANGELES, CA -- As drivers prove their innocence at warrantless police checkpoints this New Year, they will not only be scrutinized over their potential consumption of alcohol. A new technology will enable the police to detect and arrest drivers for having marijuana, narcotics, and "other drugs" in their bloodstreams.
The recently unveiled device is a portable saliva swab analyzer, capable of immediately sampling body fluids for the presence of foreign intoxicants. The machines were paid for by grants from the state.
...During police roadblocks, drivers are stopped without probable cause and forced into non-consensual interactions with government agents in which they must demonstrate their sobriety before being allowed to continue traveling down the public street.
The saliva swabs are but one of the searches that police can coerce a driver into allowing. Should the driver refuse a saliva search, the police can seek a warrant for a forced blood draw. Often in large checkpoint operations, a judge is placed on-call or on-site to sign such warrants to confiscate blood.
Such events are called "No Refusal" checkpoints, and they are gaining popularity in many states, such as Tennessee and Georgia. And with the new focus on targeting marijuana and narcotics, we can probably expect to see more of them than ever.
Well, there you go. You're officially warned. Your opportunity to fight for your liberty, as the Founding Fathers did, is now here. Are you prepared to be arrested? Beaten and tased? Thrown in jail? Killed, even? Hope you've discussed it with your family, have your will drawn up, have an attorney on speed-dial, etc. The time is now.

Once Is Happenstance, Twice Is Coincidence...
...Three times it's enemy action.
Three times now, in three different states - - Texas, Alabama, and now Pennsylvania - - random police checkpoints have been set up on roadways and Americans stopped and requested to voluntarily give blood and/or saliva samples.
I think that the federal government is running an experiment - - not anything to do with the samples themselves, but gauging how much resistance/hostility to the checkpoints themselves are offered by the American people. Or, perhaps, the government is trying to provoke a violent response to the checkpoints, for purposes of cracking down even further on civil rights and liberty.
It seems faily obvious to me that the Founding Fathers would never accept such violations of privacy and liberty; the only thing remaining to determine is, will we?

Charlotte Houses Raided and Razed
Story.
Not far from the shadows of Charlotte's Uptown towers, a group of more than 50 heavily armed men swarmed a cluster of three small homes on North Pine Street late Friday afternoon.
By one witness account, a number of dark colored vans and black SUV's closed in on the homes from several different direction. Within seconds dozens of men wearing olive drab jumpsuits with no visible identification stormed into the three homes in a simultaneous attack.
Witnesses reported hearing automatic gun fire and loud explosions often associated with "flash bang" grenades.
During the raid the area was blocked off by unmarked police cars and the para-military style operation was over in less than an hour. At no time were any CMPD marked units visible, nor was Charlotte Fire or Medic involved.

Who's Being Recruited? Who's the Enemy?
I speak, of course, of the Department of Homeland Security. Where are they getting their personnel, this quasi-military organization? Veterans? What sort of brainwashing indoctrination training are they receiving about who their potential enemy/threat is?
Just curious.
Just curious.

Who Is the Enemy?
We wonders, Precious, aye, we wonders!
The southeast Georgia town of Bloomingdale is tiny but well armed.
Metro Atlanta police departments and sheriff’s offices have armored trucks and personnel carriers in their arsenals.
And the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office has in its possession four grenade launchers should there be a need to send canisters of tear gas or bean bags into a volatile situation.
All donated surplus military equipment is available to law enforcement agencies nationwide — large and small.
Some people are upset that there are local law enforcement agencies armed with such weapons of war. But the agencies that got the guns, armored vehicles and grenade launchers say it sends a message to would-be criminals: Officers “are armed to meet any threat,” so criminals should just stay away, said Bloomingdale Police Chief Roy Pike.
From the so-called 1033 program operated by a U.S. Department of Defense unit, Pike’s department of 13 officers acquired a grenade launcher for shooting tear gas, two M14 single-shot semi-automatic rifles and two M16 military-style rifles converted to semi-automatic from automatic.
The Cato Institute, a Washington-based think tank that promotes individual liberty and limited government, believes the military surplus program should be shut down, said Tim Lynch, director of the criminal justice project.
“When this equipment is given away, police departments start saying, ‘Let’s grab it.’” And once the equipment is in the hands of law enforcement, “we have militarized units going into the community in situations where they aren’t warranted,” Lynch said.
“This is one of the most alarming trends in American policing,” Lynch continued. “We used to call them peace officers and they would treat people ... with more respect and civility. We’re getting away from that. We’re getting into these military tactics and mind-set that the people they (police) come into contact with are the enemy ... and part of this is the militarized units in police departments.”
Candace Garrett Daly, a Cobb County homemaker, is equally unnerved.
“What are we headed to?” Garrett asked. “Whatever it is seems to be already in motion at a breakneck speed. The police are preparing for an enemy. My question is, ‘Who is the enemy?’”

Adding Insult To Injury In Texas City, Texas
An 11-year-old boy got hit by a car while walking to school in Texas City; when the police arrived, they ticketed the boy for walking along the wrong side of the road.
That's pretty hardcore, if you ask me. I wonder if, when a woman is raped in Texas City, the cops ticket the victim for indecent exposure?

Wow. Gainesville SWAT Team Has Its Own Tank
Custom-built from what looks like a Bobcat earth mover:
Apparently the Sheriff's Department wants to use it to get quick access into house trailers:

Update
An update to my post "Looks Like Some Fascist Cops...
The update is here.
There are new details of a Raleigh attorney’s arrest in Wrightsville Beach.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Tuesday that cameras recorded Gina Tessener’s June 21 police station visit after she was stopped by Trooper Edward S. Wyrick for driving with a missing headlight.
The video shows her passing two breath-analysis tests, which support Tessener’s claim that she had no alcohol in her system that evening.
I think a certain state trooper, on desk duty after the incident, is probably thinking at this point that he might just have fucked up a little bit.
Update: The Raleigh News and Observer has the original story.
