...at least six county magistrates have resigned rather than be forced to officiate at same-sex weddings.
That includes Union County, where I currently live, and Gaston County, to the west of Charlotte.

If You Have To Be Held At Knifepoint...
...before you'll have sex with Romania's Angelina Jolie lookalike, you might be gay.*
And, after having raped a male cabdriver at knifepoint during the encounter, the woman now finds herself unable to get a cab ride anywhere. Go figure.
Of course, you have to question the masculinity of the male population of Romania, if no one is interested in having sex with an Angelina Jolie lookalike, at knifepoint or otherwise.
*to be said in a Jeff Foxworthy voice.

When Big Brother Disproves Your Vile Lie
Over in UK the cradle-to-grave nanny state is advanced much farther than here in the USA; not only has the government instituted comprehensive gun control (including confiscation), but has also started in on knives, as well. Additionally there is a CCTV (Closed Circuit TV) network throughout the country that monitors the movements of the citizenry subjects in a very intrusive sort of way. There is no expectation of privacy in public places in the UK. These CCTV cameras are not so effective at preventing crime - - crime occurs too quickly and there's no way to monitor that many cameras on a live basis - - but have some value at finding culprits afterward - - or not finding them, in the case of a hoax gay-bashing incident.
Yes, it's another phony hate crime:
A drama student who became an internet sensation after claiming he was savagely beaten up for being gay has admitted he caused his injuries himself when he tripped on the pavement.
Richard Kennedy, 18, from Blackpool, told police he was set upon by a gang of homophobes when he left a gay nightclub in Preston, Lancashire, prompting officers to appeal for information about what they called a 'particularly nasty assault'.
He posted photographs on Facebook of his battered and bleeding face, dislodged teeth, and gaping knee wound, with the caption 'An example [of] why homophobia is wrong and it's disgusting that it's still around in 2014'. The post was shared by more than 182,000 well-wishers.
But today the teenager, who studies Contemporary Theatre and Performance at the University of Central Lancashire, admitted he made it all up.
After being shown CCTV of him tripping and falling, face-first, onto the pavement, Kennedy accepted that the 'utterly inhumane homophobic attack' he had talked about actually never happened.
This afternoon Lancashire Police, who carried out a 'detailed and thorough investigation' into the alleged attack two weeks ago, confirmed CCTV showed the teenager had not been attacked by anyone, and had simply hurt himself when he fell over.
So basically he was just being...wait for it...a drama queen?
Personally, I think that in cases like this that get prominent publicity in media outlets, that the outlets involved should run retractions placed just as prominently as the so-called crime's original story was: if the story made front-page above-the-fold placement in a newspaper, for example, so should the retraction. If it was the lead story on the 6 o'clock news, so should the retraction. And the person making the false allegations should be punished, as this drama queen was not.

OK, They Admit It: It's Just a Sideshow
Duck Dynasty, that is. And Honey Boo-Boo, and those folks that catch catfish with their bare hands. Paula Deen, too. All just part of the sideshow, like the Strong Man and the Snake Woman and Spock and the Dog-Faced Boy:
I found the admission here, in a discussion of the "offensive" remarks made by Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty:
"Channels like A&E program 'regular' people mostly to make curiosities out of them," said Jeffrey McCall, a media studies professor at DePauw University. "The programmers want to manage every aspect of their 'reality' commodities, but that isn't really possible.
"If A&E wants the Robertsons to make money for the channel by being authentic, then at some point A&E has to accept that reality stars will be real human beings," McCall added. "If A&E didn't like the Robertsons as they are, then why did they give them a weekly platform?"
So there you are. Just part of the sideshow.

Quote of the Day
"I don't mind civil unions. That's basic contract law. But the purpose of a sliding board is, after all, to get to the fucking bottom. All slopes are slippery, and they all end in the dirty clay at the bottom of the slide, or the gutter."

"The Filth"
As in, What really caused Pope Benedict XVI to resign?
These priests, bishops and cardinals need to be either de-frocked, or if Canon Law doesn't permit that, reassigned to monasteries to live as hermits for the rest of their natural lives, never to be allowed the privilege of ministering to the public ever again. The Church certainly has enough half-empty monasteries to hold all the offenders.
And no more gay priests, IMO. Much of what is called "pedophilia" in regard to the scandals in the church is nothing but old-fashioned pederasty: grown men diddling pubescent male youths. Make homosexuality a disqualifying trait for the priesthood and you'll clean up nearly all of the problem. Sorry if you don't like that, gay men.

Yer LOL of the Day
Charlie Sheen shows the way:
Yesterday, Charlie Sheen dropped a slur against gays at the opening of a bar in Cabo San Lucas; the opening was also attended by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who was not too busy with his city’s massive budget deficit to party with the ex-Two and a Half Men star. Grabbing a mic, Sheen blasted away: “How we doing? … Lying bunch of f****t a**holes, how we doing?”
Now Sheen has tried to joke away the incident. Asked by TMZ about the slur, Sheen said, “I meant no ill will and intended to hurt no one and I apologize if I offended anyone. I meant to say maggot but I have a lisp.”
That could work in debates over race, too:
I meant to say "neighbor" but I have a lisp.

Meanwhile, Here In Charlotte...
...life is apparently so cheap that you can kill a woman in a barroom brawl and get off with 45 days jail time and probation.
This case was remarkable for The Charlotte Observer's coverage of the crime, in which the words gay and lesbian were never to be seen, and indeed, aren't to be seen in the present story.

"The News Media Today Is Killing Faith In God, All In the Name of Diversity"
Down in Wilmington, NC, the boycott against Chik-Fil-A appears to be backfiring.
Nobody picketed outside during the rainy morning hours, and there was no line of gay supporters ordering water and nothing else, an idea hatched on YouTube to nibble away at Chick-fil-A's daily profit.
But there were some eating biscuits in support of Cathy.
Armond Weatherly jumped into his appliance truck and verified that he supports Cathy's stance on gay marriage.
"I'm against it myself," he said.
Inside, a group of four white-haired men sat at a table, awaiting their fifth.
"We want to support Mr. Cathy and his stand on the Bible," said Bill Stines of Wilmington. "I think it's time that Christians stood up."
Dan Grimsley, seated at the same table, mostly agreed.
"It's not strictly religious to me," he said. "It's this ‘in-the-face' attitude."

Squares, Hipsters, Eggheads & Crackers
A Wall Street Journal analysis of why President Obama "evolved" on gay marriage.
I got a kick out of this passage discussing the political ramifications resulting from the decision:
So Obama makes up for ceding the squares and the crackers by picking up the hipsters and the eggheads. The average age of a Democratic voter drops, while the average IQ rises. Like Spinal Tap, the president's appeal is becoming more selective.
But there are two problems with this analysis. First, squares tend to be much more reliable about actually going to the polls than hipsters do, and there aren't enough eggheads who aren't already with the Democrats to make up for the lost crackers.

Poll of the Day
A tale of military incontinence. On the one side, we have US Army PFC Bradley Manning, who leaked thousands of classified documents to WikiLeaks. On the other side, we have US Marines who urinated on the bodies of dead Taliban.
Your task in this poll is to predict which will receive the more dire punishment by the US military: Manning, or the Marines?
